A Word about Insurance
The world of insurance can be confusing at the very least although I try to stay up-to-date on the current coverages.
It is my understanding that independent massage therapists in the state of North Carolina are not accepted as approved providers for billing medical insurance. So, No, your medical insurance will not pay for massage therapy performed by an independent massage therapist, like myself, even if your doctor writes a prescription.
I can bill Workman's Compensation and Personal Injury like automobile insurance as long as I have a doctor's referral with diagnosis codes and a treatment plan. I do have all the paperwork and software necessary to file these claims.
A note of interest - You may get therapeutic massage covered by your medical insurance by going to a chiropractors office or medical doctors office that employs a licensed massage therapist or at a physical therapy facility.
